Ukraine's Ambassador Accuses US of Undermining Global Order

The United States is actively dismantling the current world order, Ukraine’s ambassador to the United Kingdom has warned, in strikingly direct remarks as Ukraine attempts to mend relations with Washington following a disastrous White House meeting between Volodymyr Zelensky and Donald Trump.
Valerii Zaluzhnyi, who was removed as Ukraine’s military chief last year before assuming a diplomatic role—and is widely regarded as a potential presidential contender—also cautioned against the US seeking a middle ground with Russia.
Following heated exchanges in Washington, the US suspended military aid to Ukraine and halted intelligence sharing, raising concerns in Kyiv that the Trump administration is shifting toward a pro-Russian stance.
“It is not just the so-called ‘axis of evil’ and Russia seeking to reshape the global order—the US is actively dismantling it,” Zaluzhnyi stated during a panel discussion at Chatham House, a British think tank, on Thursday.
He criticized the US government for undermining Western unity, alleging that the Trump administration’s direct talks with Russia have sidelined both Ukraine and Europe.
“Washington is now trying to offload security responsibilities onto Europe without US involvement,” he remarked.
Zaluzhnyi also cast doubt on NATO’s future, warning that the alliance itself could soon cease to exist.
“The White House is taking steps toward the Kremlin, seeking compromise. If this continues, Europe could be Russia’s next target,” he added.
His comments come as European nations scramble to strengthen their defense capabilities following Trump’s sudden policy shift, which has raised concerns over Europe’s reliance on US support amid escalating threats from Russia.
Ukraine’s European allies have rallied around Zelensky following his heated Oval Office confrontation with Trump, which ended with the Ukrainian leader being expelled from the White House.
Since then, Zelensky has attempted to de-escalate tensions with the Trump administration, acknowledging that the meeting “did not go as planned,” calling it “regrettable,” and emphasizing Ukraine’s willingness to negotiate an end to the conflict.
Meanwhile, European leaders convened in Brussels for an emergency summit on Thursday, reaffirming their commitment to Ukraine while seeking greater involvement in diplomatic efforts.
