While much of this year’s awards season saw understated styling and dark monochrome ensembles, the Oscars red carpet was all about shimmer, sparkle, and metallics. At LA’s Dolby Theatre on Sunday, intricate embroidery and dazzling embellishments took center stage. From Halle Berry’s disco-inspired Christian Siriano gown to Demi Moore’s Swarovski crystal-adorned Armani Privé dress, craftsmanship was at the heart of the evening’s most striking outfits.
The numbers behind these looks were just as impressive. Selena Gomez paid tribute to Sophia Loren in a Ralph Lauren gown adorned with over 16,000 glass droplets. Lupita Nyong’o stunned in a pleated ivory Chanel dress featuring more than 22,000 embroidered elements, including pearl-strung straps. Meanwhile, Ariana Grande turned heads in a breathtaking Schiaparelli gown, fresh off the brand’s Spring-Summer 2025 Haute Couture runway, shimmering with over 190,000 crystal sequins, rhinestones, and cut beads. Her "Wicked" co-star Cynthia Erivo also delivered one of the night’s most memorable moments in a deep green Louis Vuitton ensemble with a dramatic collar and bow. Scarlett Johansson embraced classic Hollywood glamour in a floor-length velvet Thierry Mugler gown paired with matching gloves, while satin proved to be a standout fabric of the night, worn by "Anora" star Mikey Madison and Raffey Cassidy in sleek designs by Louis Vuitton and Loewe, respectively.
The men of the evening mostly played it safe, but there were notable exceptions. Jeff Goldblum and Bowen Yang added floral touches to their looks, with Goldblum in Prada and Yang in an embroidered leather jacket by Etro. Timothée Chalamet also made a statement in a butter-yellow Givenchy leather suit. However, one of the evening’s most striking tuxedo-inspired looks came from Blackpink’s Lisa, now a star of "White Lotus," who brought an elegant, feminine twist to formal menswear in a Markgong ensemble.
Among the night’s biggest winners, "Anora" star Mikey Madison, who took home the Best Actress award, graced the red carpet in a custom Christian Dior Haute Couture gown. The strapless design featured a black bodice and a ballerina-pink skirt, tied together with a delicate bow and a striking Tiffany & Co. necklace, cementing her status as one of the best-dressed of the night.
