Scottie Scheffler Concludes Stellar Year with Hero World Challenge Victory

Scottie Scheffler wrapped up one of the most dominant seasons in golf history by successfully defending his Hero World Challenge title, securing a commanding six-shot victory at Tiger Woods’ invitational event in the Bahamas.
His triumph at Albany Golf Club marked his ninth title of 2024, boasting an impressive 43% win rate. The 28-year-old also became the first player since Tiger Woods in 2009 to maintain the world No. 1 ranking for an entire calendar year, according to AP. Scheffler’s remarkable season included an Olympic gold medal in Paris, a FedEx Cup victory, and his second Masters title.
Having not played since his Tour Championship win on September 1, the American will next compete in the 2024 edition of “The Match,” where he will team up with Rory McIlroy against LIV golfers Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka in Las Vegas.
“It’s very satisfying,” Scheffler told NBC after his Hero World Challenge win. “I played a solid round of golf today and did a lot of good things on the course. It feels great to take a break and come back playing strong.”
Scheffler added that he looks forward to celebrating Christmas with his family before competing in The Match next week. “That should be a lot of fun, with some great competition,” he said.
The new father capped off his victory with a flawless final round of nine-under-par, finishing at 25-under to tie the tournament record at Albany. Tom Kim secured second place at 19-under, while Justin Thomas—who led entering the final round but remains winless for over two years—finished third at 18-under.
Scheffler surged ahead of Thomas early with three birdies in the first four holes and cemented his lead with four more birdies in the last six holes.
With this win, Scheffler joins an elite group, becoming only the third player to claim back-to-back Hero World Challenge titles, following in the footsteps of Tiger Woods and Viktor Hovland.
