France saw another day of nationwide protests on Saturday. The Interior Ministry estimated turnout at 320,000 people, including 70,000 in Paris. A coalition of youth unions put the figures at nearly 500,000 nationwide and 200,000 in Paris.

In Marseille, a march that began peacefully was followed by tensions later in the day. Clashes broke out near La Plaine in the evening, and police used tear gas and stun grenades to disperse groups in the area.

The unrest coincided with Halloween celebrations, and some marchers wore costumes. There is no indication that Halloween revelers generally took part in the clashes.
