A Pakistani court on Friday sentenced former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife to 14 and seven years in prison, respectively, after finding them guilty of corruption, according to officials and his lawyer.

The charges stem from allegations that the couple accepted a land gift from a real estate tycoon in exchange for laundered money while Khan was in office.

Prosecutors claim that businessman Malik Riaz was subsequently allowed by Khan to use the laundered funds—amounting to 190 million British pounds ($240 million)—to pay fines imposed on him in a separate case. These funds had been returned to Pakistan by British authorities in 2022 and were meant to be deposited into the national treasury.

Khan has denied any wrongdoing, insisting since his arrest in 2023 that all charges against him are politically motivated to prevent his return to power.

Khan, who was ousted in a no-confidence vote in April 2022, had previously been convicted in three separate cases—corruption, revealing official secrets, and violating marriage laws—receiving sentences of 10, 14, and seven years. Under Pakistani law, he will serve the longest of these sentences concurrently.
