Milo Ventimiglia Revisits His ‘Gilmore Girls’ Years and Confirms Documentary Appearance
The actor recalls his time with Alexis Bledel and other castmates as HBO Max prepares an authorized documentary featuring unseen footage.

Milo Ventimiglia’s memories of Gilmore Girls extend beyond the scenes that made it to television. In a recent interview with Us Weekly, the actor described the experience of working on the series as a collection of personal moments shared with his fellow cast members, including Alexis Bledel, with whom he was also romantically involved.
Rather than focusing on individual episodes or the audience’s interpretation of the story, Ventimiglia emphasized the atmosphere on set and the everyday interactions that shaped his time on the show. He specifically mentioned spending time with Bledel and Jared Padalecki, suggesting that these experiences remain among his most meaningful recollections.
One memory involved filming at Warner Bros.’ back lot, where he and Bledel boarded a bus carrying a large prop bag. Ventimiglia recalled asking the props team to add weight to the bag so that it would look as heavy as its appearance suggested. For him, such seemingly minor production details have become lasting reminders of the experience.
Ventimiglia joined Gilmore Girls in its second season as Jess Mariano, the character whose relationship with Rory Gilmore, played by Bledel, became a significant part of the show's storyline. The actor and Bledel also dated in real life for approximately three and a half years, ending their relationship in 2006. Bledel had previously acknowledged that marriage was something they had discussed, while clarifying that the conversations did not go beyond that.
His latest comments come as an authorized documentary about Gilmore Girls takes shape at HBO Max. Created under the direction of series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino, the project is expected to feature Lauren Graham, who played Lorelai Gilmore, alongside other participants from the show's history. The network has described it as the first authorized documentary devoted to the series, with previously unseen outtakes and behind-the-scenes material.
Ventimiglia confirmed that he would take part, although he has not yet recorded his interview and does not know which subjects will be discussed. He also indicated that he is unlikely to revisit the original episodes simply to prepare for the project.
The actor spoke warmly of Sherman-Palladino and Graham, while acknowledging the distance between the show's production years and the present. He noted that viewers still approach him with specific lines and scenes from the series, sometimes recalling moments that he himself has difficulty placing after so many years.
The continued interest highlights the lasting connection audiences have maintained with Gilmore Girls. For Ventimiglia, however, the show's legacy is not limited to its memorable dialogue or storylines; it also lives in the relationships, working days and small details that made the production meaningful to those involved.
