Kim Kardashian Balances Legal Advocacy, Career, and New Acting Role
From criminal justice reform to acting, Kardashian juggles law studies and public life
Kim Kardashian, who never completed college, has spent years pursuing an alternative law program while maintaining a high-profile career. In 2019, she revealed she was 15 credits shy of graduating and faced a rigorous work requirement to complete the program. She passed the “baby bar” exam in 2021 after multiple attempts, including one taken while battling COVID-19 with a high fever.
Despite not having a law degree, Kardashian has used her platform to advocate for individuals she believes were unjustly prosecuted or disproportionately sentenced. She played a key role in securing the release of Alice Marie Johnson, a grandmother serving a life sentence on a nonviolent drug conviction. Kardashian brought Johnson’s case to public attention and petitioned then-President Donald Trump, who commuted Johnson’s sentence in 2018. She also highlighted broader issues of mass incarceration in her 2020 docuseries, Kim Kardashian West: The Justice Project.
More recently, Kardashian has advocated for Lyle and Erik Menendez, who were convicted of murdering their parents in 1996. She pointed to allegations of long-term abuse and argued that crucial evidence was excluded from their second trial, undermining the fairness of their conviction. The brothers were recently denied parole but continue to seek new trials and clemency.
Kardashian has managed to keep up with her law studies over six years while growing her business SKIMS and pursuing acting. She stars in Ryan Murphy’s new show All’s Fair, playing divorce attorney Allura Grant. While critics have not responded positively to her performance, Kardashian continues to expand her career in multiple arenas.
