Instinct has raised $1 billion in its latest funding round, lifting the artificial intelligence startup's valuation to $10 billion as investors continue to direct substantial capital toward the emerging market for agentic AI.

The financing marks a sharp increase from the company's previously reported valuation. Reuters reported that Instinct had previously raised $250 million at a $2.5 billion valuation, based on comments from founder Noah Shinn to The Wall Street Journal last month. The latest round included Sequoia Capital, Benchmark Capital and Coatue.

At the center of Instinct's business is a personal AI agent designed to handle everyday tasks autonomously. Founded in 2025 by Shinn, who previously worked at Sierra, an AI customer-service startup led by Salesforce co-CEO Bret Taylor, Instinct is positioning its technology around a broader shift in how people may interact with software.

The significance of the funding extends beyond the size of the round itself. Investor interest in agentic AI reflects a growing focus on systems that can execute sequences of tasks rather than merely generate responses to individual prompts. If these systems can reliably manage routine workflows, they could compete with parts of the work currently performed by employees or through conventional software applications.

That potential is also creating a more demanding economic test for AI startups. Building autonomous systems requires substantial computing resources and infrastructure, while commercial success depends on whether companies can convert technically ambitious products into sustainable businesses. Large funding rounds provide startups with capital to develop their technology, but they also raise expectations around future growth and monetization.

Instinct's new valuation places it within a rapidly expanding group of privately held AI companies securing exceptionally large investments. The scale of the round illustrates how venture capital is positioning itself for what investors view as the next phase of artificial intelligence, while the longer-term value of these companies will depend on the ability of their products to deliver practical and economically viable automation.
