NEW YORK — H.E. Ambassador Hynek Kmoníček has formally assumed his duties as Permanent Representative of the Czech Republic to the United Nations after presenting his credentials to UN Secretary-General António Guterres at UN Headquarters in New York.

The appointment marks a return to a familiar diplomatic role for Kmoníček, who first presented his credentials as the Czech Republic’s ambassador to the United Nations in 2001.

According to the announcement provided, Kmoníček emphasized the importance of international cooperation and his country’s active participation in addressing global challenges. He highlighted preparations for the Czech Republic’s candidacy for a seat on the UN Security Council as a key priority for Czech diplomacy in the coming years.

Guterres described the Czech Republic’s cooperation with the United Nations as exemplary and praised its practical approach to solving problems, the announcement stated.

Kmoníček brings extensive international experience to the position, having served as the Czech Republic’s ambassador to the United States, Vietnam, Australia and India.

His return places an experienced diplomat at the head of the Czech mission as the country prepares to advance its priorities within the United Nations.
