CAIRO — Mabarret Old Cairo Hospital has received Diamond Status in the World Stroke Organization (WSO) Angels Awards for the third quarter of 2026, Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population announced on October 31. The hospital operates under Egypt’s Therapeutic Institution.

The ministry said the recognition reflects the hospital’s performance in caring for stroke patients, including timely diagnosis and treatment, clinical procedures and access to specialized care. Ministry spokesperson Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar described Diamond as the program’s highest award level.

The Angels Initiative works with hospitals and stroke teams to improve care through training, treatment protocols and performance measurement. Its awards recognize hospitals at Gold, Platinum or Diamond level based on reported quality measures. The WSO assesses the awards quarterly using treatment data. Hospitals must report on at least 30 consecutive stroke patients to qualify.

The measures cover more than treatment speed. They also include brain imaging, screening for swallowing difficulties, appropriate medicines at discharge and care in a dedicated stroke unit or intensive care unit. Diamond Status recognizes performance against the program’s highest tier of criteria during the assessed period.

Dr. Mohamed Shokweir, chairman of the Therapeutic Institution, credited the hospital’s medical and administrative teams. He said the institution would continue developing clinical services, staff capabilities and evidence-based practices.
