Global aviation made a strong comeback in 2025, with passenger numbers reaching nearly 9.8 billion worldwide, according to Airports Council International. This marks a steady increase compared to both 2024 and pre-pandemic levels.

At the top of the rankings, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport once again secured its position as the world’s busiest airport, handling an impressive 106.3 million passengers. Despite a slight drop from the previous year, the airport continues a remarkable streak, holding the top spot for 27 of the last 28 years.

Following closely, Dubai International Airport maintained its second-place ranking for the third consecutive year and remains the busiest airport globally for international travelers. Meanwhile, Tokyo Haneda Airport climbed to third place, reflecting Asia’s ongoing recovery in air travel demand.

Rounding out the top five are Dallas Fort Worth International Airport and Shanghai Pudong International Airport, both benefiting from strong regional and international connectivity.

Industry experts highlight that much of this growth has been driven by international travel, particularly across Asia-Pacific and the Middle East. However, the outlook for 2026 is far less certain.

Rising geopolitical tensions — especially in the Middle East — have already begun to disrupt operations at major hubs like Dubai. Airlines are increasingly adjusting routes to avoid affected مناطق، while higher fuel prices are pushing ticket costs upward.
