The United States will not allow Iran to develop or possess a nuclear weapon or threaten international shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a U.S. Department of State spokesperson said in an exclusive interview with Cairo 24.

The wide-ranging interview, conducted by Egyptian journalist Haidy Eldesouky, examined several of the most pressing political and security issues currently affecting the Middle East.

The State Department spokesperson reaffirmed Washington’s position on Iran’s nuclear ambitions and discussed the future of diplomacy with Tehran, including the conditions required for a possible return to negotiations.
