Egypt’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations has reinforced its commitment to advancing women’s leadership in international affairs by participating in a high-level dialogue marking the International Day of Women in Diplomacy. The event represented more than a ceremonial observance; it served as a strategic platform for assessing how women’s participation can reshape diplomatic institutions and contribute to more inclusive global governance frameworks.

The dialogue was moderated by Dr. Noha Emara, spouse of H.E. Ambassador Ihab Awad and Board Member of the Women International Forum (WIF). Organized in cooperation with the Circle of Women Permanent Representatives at the United Nations, the gathering brought together a distinguished group of female leaders and diplomats who occupy influential positions within the international system.

Among the participants were Ms. Annalena Baerbock, President of the United Nations General Assembly; H.E. Ambassador Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett, Permanent Representative of Guyana to the United Nations; H.E. Ambassador Aglaia Balta, Permanent Representative of Lebanon to the United Nations; and H.E. Ambassador Lise Gregoire-van Haaren, Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the United Nations.

Discussions centered on practical strategies aimed at increasing women’s access to leadership and diplomatic positions, with participants emphasizing the importance of expanding female representation across all decision-making levels. The dialogue also explored persistent barriers that continue to limit women’s participation in international governance structures and examined opportunities to create more inclusive pathways for future generations of women leaders.

A significant focus of the discussions was placed on the multidimensional role of women in peacebuilding, conflict resolution, and the formulation of international policy. Participants argued that broader representation of women in diplomatic institutions contributes to more diverse perspectives and can improve the quality and sustainability of global policy responses to increasingly complex international challenges.
