Pope Leo XIV began the year 2026 with a powerful message calling for global peace, addressing nations afflicted by armed conflicts and families devastated by violence and loss, at a time when the world is facing mounting humanitarian challenges.

The call was delivered during a Mass held at St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican on January 1, coinciding with the observance of the World Day of Peace. The Pope emphasized that the beginning of a new year offers humanity a renewed opportunity to reject violence and strengthen the values of dialogue, tolerance, and mutual understanding.

In his homily, Pope Leo XIV stressed that peace is not merely the absence of war, but a continuous process that requires justice, reconciliation, and respect for human dignity. He noted that the consequences of conflict extend far beyond battlefields, reaching deep into homes and families living with profound wounds caused by instability and violence.
