Following the passing of Hollywood legend Robert Redford at the age of 89, tributes have poured in from his longtime friends and costars, who remembered him as a man of grace, talent, and integrity.

Jane Fonda, Redford’s frequent onscreen partner for more than five decades, said the news of his death “hit her hard.”

“I can’t stop crying. He meant a lot to me and was a beautiful person in every way,” Fonda said in a statement shared “He stood for an America we have to keep fighting for.”

Fonda and Redford first worked together in “The Chase” (1966), followed by their beloved romantic comedy “Barefoot in the Park” (1967). They reunited for “The Electric Horseman” (1979) and later for Netflix’s “Our Souls at Night” (2017) — exactly 50 years after their first major collaboration.

Another of Redford’s iconic costars, Barbra Streisand, also mourned his loss. Recalling their work together in “The Way We Were” (1973), Streisand described each day on set as “exciting, intense, and pure joy.”

“Robert was charismatic, intelligent, and one of the finest actors ever,” Streisand wrote on Instagram. “He was one of a kind, and I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to work with him.”

Meryl Streep, who starred opposite Redford in “Out of Africa” (1985), paid a heartfelt tribute as well: “One of the lions has passed. Rest in peace, my lovely friend.”

Meanwhile, Dustin Hoffman, Redford’s costar in “All the President’s Men” (1976), said working with him was “one of the greatest experiences I’ve ever had.”

“He was that rare person where what you see is what you get — the decency he projected in his movies was genuine,” Hoffman said.

Morgan Freeman, who appeared with Redford in two films, called working with him “a dream come true.”
